With Anton almost fully recovered it was time to place our tyres on the pamir highway. After a short delay due to an exploded rear tyre we started our way up into the Pamirs. When exiting the city of Khorog a fast running clear waterstream caught our attention and we were delayed some more as Anton and Stef couldn't resist the temptation to jump off the small bridge into this water attraction. The current brought them back to the stairs where Yuri stood, already in the saddle. Time to go!
A military checkpoint indicated that we were officially on the Pamir highway now. As we followed the dark blue river upstream, we cycled through numerous U-shapes of snow and tarmac where the road was dug out after an avalanche. These walls of snow on either side worked as a huge refrigerator, chilling us while we cycled through. A wide meltwater sidestream caught our attention and while Yuri found a reading spot in the shade, the silk road swimmers jumped in for a fingernumbing dive and a couple of treedives. We warmed up on the lawn of a friendly neighbour before continueing the mandatory daily 50 km. A riverside forest provided more than enough space to hang up our cocoons. Yuri scouted the fishing grounds , but after an hour of 'no bites, no nibbles' he called it a day and used harden, just like his two friends.
